Welcoming Baby Bennett: A Fine Art In-Home Newborn Session in Ponte Vedra Beach
There is something I will never get used to — in the best way — and that's walking back into the home of a family I've already photographed before, only to find a brand new baby has joined the family. That was exactly the gift waiting for me when I returned for an in-home newborn session in Ponte Vedra Beach, this time to welcome baby number three, Bennett.
As a Jacksonville and St. Augustine newborn photographer, I treasure the rare privilege of documenting a family more than once. Maren was the very first baby I had the honor of photographing in this home, and now she's a spirited two-year-old big sister, climbing onto the bed to get a closer look at her new baby brother. Returning to this same beautiful home for Bennett felt less like a photography session and more like a reunion — and it reminded me all over again why in-home newborn sessions are the heart of my work.

A Home Built for Soft Light and Soft Moments
If you've followed my work for any length of time, you know I have a deep affinity for homes that feel like they walked straight out of a Serena & Lily catalog — and this coastal Ponte Vedra Beach home is exactly that, only better, because it's lived in by three children, a very patient golden retriever, and so much love. Soft blues, crisp whites, linen textures, and that effortless upscale coastal style filled every room I photographed in, from the nursery with Bennett's name in wood block letters on the door to the primary bedroom where the morning light poured in like it had been invited specifically for us.
This is precisely why I love in-home newborn sessions so much: no studio backdrop could replicate the story written into this family's home. The hand-painted animal swaddle in Bennett's nursery, the "Thank Heaven for Little Boys" pillow tucked into the crib, the monogrammed blue bow swaddle chosen for the newest son of the family — every detail belonged to them, and every detail made its way into these fine art portraits.

Big Siblings, a Watchful Golden Retriever, and the Quiet Magic of Day Three
What made this session so emotional for me wasn't just the soft light or the beautiful bedding — it was watching Bennett's older siblings meet him for the first time in front of my lens. Bennett's big brother, in his crisp white button-down, cradled him with the kind of gentle confidence only a big brother can have, resting his cheek against his mother's shoulder as he studied his new brother's face. Maren, in a powder blue ruffled dress, climbed onto the bed beside them, fascinated and unable to keep her hands off her new baby brother for more than a few seconds at a time — the same sweet curiosity I remember from photographing her as a newborn herself, two years ago in this very home.
And then there was their golden retriever, who positioned himself protectively beside Bennett on the bed as though he understood, instinctively, that his job had just gotten more important. I always tell my Jacksonville and St. Augustine clients that pets belong in these newborn photos — they're part of the family story, and this gentle giant proved exactly why.
This sweet family held their newest son the way only parents of three can: relaxed, present, soaking in every second instead of rushing through it. There's a particular kind of stillness that settles into a home by baby number three — less first-time nerves, more quiet awe — and I tried to capture every bit of it, from the quiet hush of Bennett sleeping in his father's arms by the window to the full, beautifully chaotic family portrait with everyone piled onto the bed together.

Why In-Home Newborn Sessions Matter
As a fine art newborn and family photographer serving Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, and the surrounding Northeast Florida coast, I always encourage my clients to consider an in-home session over a studio one, especially for families welcoming baby number two or three. Older siblings are more comfortable in their own space. Pets can be part of the story. And the home itself — the nursery you spent months designing, the bedding you chose so carefully, the light that falls just right through your bedroom windows in the morning — becomes a permanent part of your family's visual history.
This family's mom put it best in her testimonial:
"Our newborn photos are absolutely stunning! Rya was so kind and accommodating and made us feel comfortable during the entire shoot."
— Melissa L., Ponte Vedra Beach
That kind of trust is everything to me. Being invited back into a family's home to document their growing story, milestone after milestone, is the highest compliment a client can give a photographer, and it's exactly the kind of long-term relationship I hope to build with every family I photograph along the coast. I think often about how quickly these days slip by — the way a swaddle blanket gets folded away, the way a nursery eventually becomes a "big kid" room, the way a newborn's first week of squeaky little sounds and unfocused eyes is gone before you've even caught your breath. That's the real reason I do this work. Photographs like these aren't just pretty images for a nursery wall; they're proof. Proof that Bennett's brother held him so gently. Proof that Maren pressed her cheek to his without anyone asking her to. Proof that their golden retriever, who has weathered two newborns in this family now, still curled up protectively beside him without missing a beat. Years from now, this family will look back at these photographs and remember exactly how this particular spring morning in Ponte Vedra Beach felt — soft, golden, and full.
